What a bullion dealer does
The term bullion dealer usually describes a business specialising in trading precious metals. In Italy, the relevant professional status for trading gold is that of a Professional Gold Operator (OPO), registered in the dedicated register maintained by OAM.
Activities may include buying and selling investment gold and gold material intended for industrial use. The services actually offered depend on the operator, so it is useful to check its registration and scope of activity.
For a private individual wishing to buy or sell physical gold, dealing with a bullion dealer involves very practical considerations: product characteristics, fine gold content, provenance, availability and trading terms.
Bullion dealing and used-gold buying:
what is the difference?
These activities can coexist within the same business, but require separate registrations in Italy.

Monetaio operates in both areas: as a Professional Gold Operator, registered with OAM under OPO7, and as a used-gold buyer, registered with OAM under OCO4814.
We buy gold, jewellery and silver →Bars and coins:
a closer look at investment gold
At Monetaio we deal in Argor-Heraeus bars made especially for us and investment gold coins, including sovereigns, 20-franc coins and Krugerrands. Format, availability and terms are agreed before purchase.
Argor-Heraeus appears on the LBMA Good Delivery List for gold: the accreditation applies to the refinery. Our page about gold bars provides more information, together with the products we handle.
What if a coin also has numismatic value?
Rarity, condition and collector interest can affect a coin’s value. Numismatic expertise helps distinguish these factors from its precious metal content alone.
Is the gold quotation
already the price of the bar?
The quotation is the market reference for the metal. The price of a physical product also takes account of its fine gold content, format and trading terms. Buying and selling prices can differ.
When comparing an offer, consider weight, fineness, product characteristics and the total amount. Our price list shows indicative selling prices: availability and final terms are confirmed when you enquire.
